SENATE COMMITTEE ACTIVITIES

This advertisement appears every second Wednesday on this page. It provides information on Senate and some joint committee activities. Senate committees encourage public involvement in their inquiries and submissions are invited from interested persons and organisations.

Environment protection and biodiversity conservation

The Senate Standing Committee on Environment, Communications and the Arts is inquiring into the effectiveness of the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 and other programs in protecting threatened species and ecological communities. The committee is to report by 27 November and submissions are due by 5 September. Submissions may be emailed to eca.sen@aph.gov.au. Skilling for climate change

The Senate Standing Committee on Education, Employment and Workplace Relations is inquiring into the capacity of universities and other research and training institutions to meet the demand for climate change professionals, and possible measures to assist understanding of climate change in the Asia-Pacific region, including provision of training and skills assistance. The reporting date is 20 March 2009. Submissions are due by 29 August and should be emailed to eewr.sen@aph.gov.au. Security and economic challenges in the Pacific

The Senate Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade is inquiring into the major economic and security challenges facing Papua New Guinea and the island states of the southwest Pacific. The committee is due to report by 30 May 2009 and calls for submissions by 30 August. Franchising

The Parliamentary Joint Committee on Corporations and Financial Services is inquiring into the operation of the Franchising Code of Conduct and related matters. Submissions are invited by 12 September and can be lodged at corporations.joint@aph.gov.au. Disclosure and governance regimes for charities

The Senate Standing Committee on Economics is examining current disclosure regimes and governance issues for charities and not-for-profit organisations. The committee is to report on 27 November.
