The Department provides the administrative support for the efficient operation of the House of Representatives, its committees and certain joint committees and a range of services and facilities for Members in Parliament House.

There is currently one advertised vacancy:

Committee Secretary Executive Band 2
($97,535 - $108,225)
Expected Vacancy

Parliamentary Committees, comprising members of Parliament of all parties, conduct inquiries into government policy and administration. They are supported by committee secretariats which provide impartial research, advisory and administrative support.

The Department is looking for a leader with effective management skills to efficiently manage a secretariat supporting two or more committees.  The person will also have demonstrated research, analytical and writing skills to assist Committee Secretariats in the preparation of research and draft reports.  Knowledge of parliamentary practice and procedure relating to the operation of parliamentary committees, or the ability to acquire such knowledge quickly is essential.

As a Committee Secretary you will be an effective leader of a team working under pressure and to deadlines. You will need to possess proven leadership experience, oral and written communication skills and tertiary qualifications as you will advise committee members on matters relating to procedures, administration, inquiry management and the subject areas of the work of two or more committees.

2009 Graduate Program

The Department of the House of Representatives will offer 3-month placements in 2009 to candidates who are part of existing government department graduate programs in 2008.  This Program enables participants to work behind the scenes of the House and discover how the Department supports the Parliament.
